The world seems to assume I should be in a beige cubicle answering ringing phones and restocking printer paper, but that just won’t do. I gave up on being satisfied with my humdrum existence (which I was very good at, by the way) and so should you. If you found yourself in that same boring place in life, but would love to do something else, then do it. Being an introvert in extroverted, western society is not a disease. It is not a handicap or even a preference. It is a powerful personality trait. A livelihood if you ask me. I’ll rearrange things and build them back up. I’ll be a cheerful recluse and the CEO, if I see fit.
We are amazing and enigmatic. We are the rare owl in the midst of parrots and jays. We ponder and reflect; then create into existence. The detailed work of your mind and hands is what keeps the world an interesting place. Don’t forget that. You were meant to bring something to the world…however different.
I know how frustrating it can be growing up going to audition after audition only to be met with your nerves. The girl with the boisterous personality got every role while you just froze up and played a personified tree. Anytime you did anything worth remembering you were likened to a moody artist…bizarre and “different”.
“They” didn’t get you. Maybe your parents never got you. But there are a plethora of quirky, amazing, creative, reflective brains in sync with how your’s moves. They are hiding out in Alaska making fiber-optic headpieces. They are in Louisiana recording banjo frequencies underwater. And they are right here in LA starting a digital movement with a group of fan fiction writers.
So this is for you. THAT INTROVERT. THAT WEIRD ONE. THAT OUTCAST. The ONE that everyone told to become a dentist, when you want to be in a punk reggae band. The introvert that was told to keep their job as the county clerk when you want to be a flamenco choreographer for SYTYCD. Or the quirky one that was told they didn’t have one original bone in their body…but creates underground, virtual reality, art installations. I think you are awesome and your life is full of meaning.
Yes, you are meant to be here.
This blog is for us…and so is the entertainment industry.
